Music for HIV charity!!

One week a year, in December, broadcast around the clock to highlight a hidden humanitarian disaster. In Musikhjälpen it's your music - and your commitment - that saves lives.

Three-known presenters will be locked in a studio in a square in a Swedish city - this year is the turn of Uppsala where we meet at the main square, between 8 and 14 December.

In Musikhjälpen 2014, we want your help to stop the spread of the virus HIV. Every 15 seconds someone with HIV worldwide, and a large proportion of them are children and teenagers. Without medication, the virus becomes life threatening.

Our goal is to help those most affected and to dispel prejudices by raising awareness about HIV and AIDS.

First Aid Kit offer a new version of R.E.M. - "Walk Unafraid"

First Aid Kit covered R.E.M.’s Up track “Walk Unafraid” for the soundtrack to Reese Witherspoon’s new backpacking movie Wild. The film, which stars Reese Witherspoon as a woman hiking the Pacific Crest Trail as a means of healing.

Where as the original broods and jangles in equal measure, First Aid Kit’s version takes a dark-tinged chamber-folk turn.

First Aid Kit offer a lovely version of the song "All My Trials"

"All My Trials" was a folk song during the social protest movements of the 1950s and 1960s. It is based on a Bahamian lullaby that tells the story of a mother on her death bed, comforting her children, "Hush little baby, don't you cry./You know your mama's bound to die," because, as she explains, "All my trials, Lord,/Soon be over." The message — that no matter how bleak the situation seemed, the struggle would "soon be over" — propelled the song to the status of an anthem, recorded by many of the leading artists of the era.

"Gloomy Sunday" is a song composed by Hungarian pianist and composer Rezső Seress and published in 1933.

The first lyrics were written in 1932 by László Jávor, in his melancholy love poem "Szomorú vasárnap" after his beloved had left him. The song was first recorded in Hungarian by Pál Kalmár in 1935. Of Monsters and Men

Of Monsters and Men är ett indiefolk-/indiepopband från Island. Bandet består av Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir (sång/gitarr), Ragnar Þórhallsson (sång/gitarr), Brynjar Leifsson (gitarr), Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson (trummor), Árni Guðjónsson (pianist och dragspel), Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bas) och Ragnhildur Gunnarsdóttir (trumpet).

Of Monsters and Men trädde 2010 in i Músíktilraunir (årlig musiktävling i Island) som en kvartett Nanna, Raggi, Brynjar och Arnar. Efter Músiktilraunir har kvartetten lagt till två medlemar Árni och Kristján och fortsatte att turnera i Island och arbeta på nya låtar.

De var inbjudna att uppträda på 2010 Island Airwaves festivalen, och det är där som den Seattle-baserade radiostationen KEXP inspelade bandet utför "Little Talks" från ett vardagsrum session.

Bandet undertecknade med Record Records i februari 2011 och släppte deras debutalbum på Island. I augusti 2011 så börjar Philadelphias Radio 104,5 att spela "Little Talks" så drivs bandet till rikstäckande popularitet. Deras debutalbum My Head Is an Animal släpptes på Island i september 2011 men både den och "Little Talks" blir nr 1.

Med framgång på Island, och växande popularitet i USA, fick bandet kontrakt med Universal för deras världsomspännande debutalbum. Bandet släppte sitt Into the Woods EP den 20 december 2011, som innehåller fyra låtar från deras debut album, släpptes senare My Head Is an Animal i USA den 3 april 2012.

På den finns låten Little Talks, som blivit en hit i många länder.

Iris & Hedvig

Unga duon Iris & Hedvig har rötter i Göteborg, Ryssland, Norge och på Island. Alldeles nyligen gav de ut debutsingeln "The Watcher And The Mind" på Loud Attic Records. Låten har redan hamnat högt på iTunes alternativa topplista.

Enligt rockfoto.nu så sågs de först gången genom en kompis. Sedan gick det några år innan de möttes igen på en musikskola här i Göteborg. Efter ett tag flyttade de till Berlin ihop och bodde i en gammal rivningslägenhet. Det var där de började göra musik ihop på riktigt.

De inspireras av Massive Attack, Nouvelle Vague och Sea Of Bees. Men gillar även instrumental musik som Yann Tiersen, Thievery Corporation och Chinese Man.

De har påbörjat nästa singel och de ser fram emot att ha spelningar så snart som möjligt!

Samantha Crain

Samantha Crain (född 15 Aug 1986) är en amerikansk låtskrivare, musiker och sångare från Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Crain lärde sig själv att spela gitarr och skriva låtar utifrån hennes noveller, sommaren innan hennes sista år på Dale High School.

Samantha Crain gick på Baptist University i Oklahoma och vid 19 års ålder anmälde hon sig till en studieprogram på Martha's Vineyard-based Contemporary Music Center.

Samantha Crain spelar countryfolk och är uppväxt på en stadig diet av sin pappas Bob Dylan- och Neil Young-plattor. Under tonåren levde hon på Woodie Guthrie och under senare år har hon utvecklat en kärlek till Jason Molina.

Med fyra fullängdare i ryggen har hon en stabil produktion att luta sig mot. På sina tidigare album har hon inte varit lika personlig, inte lika blottad. Men nu får du följa med i hennes rastlösa vandrande mellan förhållanden, städer och situationer.

När senaste albumet med den insiktsfulla titeln ”Kid Face” kom i slutet av 2013 så slöt hon på något sätt cirkeln. ”Kid Face” har en sparsam produktion där Crains fantastiskt uttrycksfulla och stora men sårbara röst verkligen får breda ut sig och ta plats.

Och Samantha Crain kommer till Wayoutwest i år.

First Aid Kit - Systrarna är tillbaka

First Aid Kit nu är systrarna Johanna Söderberg och Klara Söderberg tillbaka du kan lyssna på deras nya singel "My Silver Lining”. Det nya albumet "Stay Gold" släpps 10 juni, men har släppts på spotify. Vill du lyssna på äldre musik från dem så gå till First Aid Kit.

Någonting har hänt med First Aid Kit sedan "The Lion's Roar". De har slagit igenom brett i stora delar av världen och plockats upp av ett stort multinationellt bolag. Då finns alltid farhågorna att pressen från det stora bolaget skulle vara stor på systrarna Johanna och Klara Söderberg att skapa ett mer kommersiellt och brett sound.

Förklaringen till duons storhet är självklart att de har låtmaterialet att backa upp den honungslena stämsången med.

Producenten Mike Mogis är tillbaka och det låter lika underskönt som tidigare när stämmorna går in i varandra. Arrangemangen är lite fylligare, ljudbilden är en aning större, det är något mer stråkar och blås, men First Aid Kit håller benhårt fast vid sitt framgångskoncept. Och de gör det bra.

Stay Gold mer än en bara ett nytt album, det är något annat. Den är mer sofistikerad, klänger sig djupare in i americanan, visar mer fyllnad.
